Detroit Salsa Company

Just a short drive Downriver, Detroit Salsa Company shows that some of the best gifts come in jars. Mexican immigrant Finn Gomez started this business as a teen, and now the shop offers small-batch, preservative-free salsas that are always a hit at holiday parties. Their Lincoln Park storefront is a great place to pick up a “Custom Four Pack” gift set, where you can mix and match their Original, Verde, or the spicy “Ghost” salsa for anyone who loves heat. Be sure to grab a bag of their restaurant-style chips, too. They are sturdy for hearty dips and so tasty they might be gone before Noche Buena dinner even begins.

La Gloria Bakery

La Gloria is known for its amazing flavors. For a unique holiday potluck treat, try bringing a tray of their crispy, sugary churros instead of pie; no one can eat just one. They also make Rosca de Reyes (King’s Cake) for Three Kings Day in January. Pre-ordering one of these festive, fruit-topped breads is a great way to keep the holiday spirit going after December 25th. Their breads are baked fresh every day, filling the street with the smell of cinnamon and yeast.
