This week Detroit will be visited by legendary Mexican singer- songwriter Gabino Palomares, whose compositions portray Mexican and Latin American society in all its complexity. Originally from Guanajuato, Gabino is part of a generation that created political- cultural movements such as the New Latin American Song and Canto Nuevo in Mexico. In his own words: “I’m part of ‘the salmon brotherhood’: always swimming against the current!”

Songs like “La Maldición de Malinche”, “A la Patria” or “Historia Cotidiana” denounce injustices, discrimination, war and social violence, and amplify the voices of workers, youth, women, indigenous peoples and all the oppressed.

As part of his world tour, Gabino Will present “Cantos para Continuar” (Songs to Continue On), and he will also share his views of the current reality and the changes ocurring in Mexico under the current government.

Our community will be able to enjoy Gabino’s music in a very special concert this Friday at 8 pm at Garage Cultural in Southwest Detroit. Also featured will be the Venezuelan and Caribbean music of Sobeida Martinez and the Spanish- language rap of Vicente Duran (SubVerso).

We invite the entire community to participate in this gathering!

El Tecolote*Please note: this event will be primarily in Spanish
