Council Member Santiago- Romero kicked off the second year of her term with a “Coffee, Council, & Conversation” event at Mexicantown CDC’s Galería on Thursday, January 19th. It was a successful first event of the year for #TeamGSR with more than 35 people in attendance. Residents brought up issues such as the need to address rent control and property over assessments.
The Council Member said she is discussing those issues in particular with her counterparts at the state level. Other quality-of-life concerns were discussed including navigating red tape, which her team will be working directly with residents to address; and at the same time she is also working on several ordinances, including fugitive dust, anti-idling, truck routes, and geotechnical. Further, she is working with the city’s Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce to establish an Office of Violence Prevention. (Note: Geotechnical is a mandated report on materials stored on the property in the city and limits the number of materials that can be stored on-site by weight.)
