LANSING, Mich. — On Tuesday, June 10, the Michigan Legislative Latino Caucus (MLLC), chaired by Sen. Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.), welcomed engaged advocates from across the state to the Capitol in recognition of Legislative Latino Advocacy Day. This serves as a platform for Latino Michiganders to lift their voices and lived experiences to lawmakers, empowering the community to advocate for the issues that matter most to them.
“As Chair of the Michigan Latino Caucus, I’m deeply grateful for the voices of the Latino community who joined us here this week,” said Sen. Cavanagh. “Your voices, stories, and leadership are vital to shaping policies that reflect the strength, diversity, and contributions of Latino communities across our state. I will always fight like hell to ensure the voices of this community are not missing from the spaces where important decisions are made.”
“The Latino community is a driving force in Michigan’s economic growth — from small business ownership to contributions in key industries like agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare. Our entrepreneurial spirit and hard work not only strengthen local economies but also enrich the cultural and civic life of our state,” said Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton), Vice Chair of the MLLC. “I’m glad so many members of the community joined us here yesterday, and I’ll continue to work hard to ensure we offer support to our Latino neighbors so they can thrive here in Michigan.”
“It was an honor to welcome members of the Latino community to the Capitol for advocacy day,” said state Rep. Veronica Paiz (D-Harper Woods), Secretary and Treasurer of the MLLC. “Your presence and engagement send a powerful message about the importance of inclusive policymaking. Thank you for taking the time to advocate, share your experiences, and help build a stronger future for all Michiganders. We are stronger together.”
The MLLC is a bicameral caucus of legislators dedicated to advancing legislative priorities that reflect the betterment of Michigan’s Latino community.
