One of the more endearing activities hosted by the NFL as part of the annual Draft is a Play Football Clinic with Special Olympics athletes and select 2024 NFL draft prospects. On Wednesday, April 24, NFL draft prospects had the opportunity to meet, participate and play in a flag football game/clinic with Special Olympics Michigan athletes and their local Detroit area unified teammates.
This year’s event at the Corner Ballpark at Michigan and Trumbull in Corktown featured 13 top prospects including Caleb Williams (QB, USC) who was the Number one overall pick by the Chicago Bears and Terrion Arnold (CB, Alabama) the first round pick of the Detroit Lions.
Since 2017, the NFL and Special Olympics have partnered together across the country to provide opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to ‘PLAY 60’ and this partnership allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to play on the same team. During the 2024 NFL season, the partnership with Special Olympics will expand to reach all 32 NFL club markets with Unified Flag Football grants funded by the NFL Foundation.
