Lakeland, Florida – Joker Marchant Stadium – Publix Field – March 4, 2026

The Detroit Tigers have a history going back 90 years in Lakeland, Florida, where they have conducted their spring training on same site longer than any other MLB team. Publix Field was the site of the FIRST EVER “WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC”  pre-season exhibition game between Team Panama and the Tigers on March 4, 2026, El Central was there to cover the action.

The World Baseball Classic

The WBC, was created by Major League Baseball and  is the only global competition where top-tier MLB stars represent their home countries in a “World Cup” style format.  Current Tigers playing in the WBC will be:

  • USA – Tarik Skubal & Will Vest
  •  Venezuela – Gleyber Torres, Keider Montero, & Emanuel De Jesus
  •  South Korea – Jamai Jones & Woo-Suk Go
  •  Netherlands – Kenley Jansen
  •  Israel – Carlos Lequarica

In addition, some of the Tiger front office and coaching staff are participating in the WBC.

El World Baseball Classic

  • USA – Tarik Skubal y Will Vest
  • Venezuela – Gleyber Torres, Keider Montero y Emanuel De Jesus
  • South Korea – Jamai Jones y Woo-Suk Go
  • Netherlands – Kenley Jansen
  • Israel – Carlos Lequarica
