Last week, a small delegation of Hispanics from Detroit and Michigan were invited to participate in formal observations of National Hispanic Heritage Month. It was a doubleheader for invitees from around the country including Eva Garza Dewaelsche, President and CEO of SER Metro-Detroit and owner and publisher of EL CENTRAL Hispanic News and Belda Garza, former Michigan State Representative and Chair of MANA de Metro Detroit. The first event was a reception hosted by President Joe Biden at the White House on Wednesday, September 18, which Michigan State Representative Veronica Paiz also attended. On Thursday, Dewaelsche and Garza toured the capital and dropped by the offices of our congressional representatives. Thursday evening, they attended the 47th annual Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Awards Gala at the Washington Conference Center. The Gala honors the rich legacy and outstanding achievements and contributions of exemplary Latino trailblazers.
