The Detroit Lions recognized Latino Heritage Month during their regular season game, September 15 at Ford Field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Latino heritage within Detroit was celebrated through traditional dance performances, live music, interactive activities and informative discussions on Latino culture. Festivities included Ballet Folklorico Detroit, Salsa & Bachata Dance Lessons taught by Mino Bachatero, and Mariachi Femenil Detroit. Local Detroit artist, Natalie Rivera, live-painted a piece featuring Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown depicted as the Aztec Sun God, Huitzilopochtli. There was also face painting and a low rider display. There was an on-field recognition of former United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Cynthia Dixon as the game’s honoree for her courageous military service to our nation. After completing her nine-year enlistment, Dixon returned home to Southwest Detroit, serving at Santos Church located in the heart of Mexicantown as the Mission and Outreach Coordinator and Admin of the church.
