My name is Juana. I joined the ESL program in April 2021 at All Saints Literacy Center (ASLC). Before starting the program, I didn’t understand phrases like “Nice to see you!” or “What’s your name?” I was unable to pronounce words like “name“ or understand phrases like “Where are you from?“
Thanks to resources available through the ESL program, I now have better pronunciation. I am no longer scared to order food or complete daily tasks in my community. ASLC ignited the fire in me after awarding me with the National Adult Education Honor Society award in May 2022. I am able to speak more fluently, and I have a better understanding of the language. With the help of my tutor, Alma, I now have a larger vocabulary. My tutor had an impact on my progress with her patience and positive attitude. Her positive attitude motivated me to learn. Because of that motivation, I was able to achieve one of my biggest goals on January 25, 2024. Thanks to ASLC connecting me with my wonderful tutor Alma, I was able to become a US citizen. My tutor provided me with the tools needed to succeed. Our community continues to grow and benefits greatly from organizations like All Saints Literacy Center.
About All Saints Literacy Center
The All Saints Literacy Center stands as a beacon of hope for adult learners, offering a chance to improve essential skills such as reading, writing, math, and English communication. With a mission to empower individuals and foster community solidarity, the center provides free educational programs that are crucial for navigating the complexities of today’s world. The dedicated tutors at the center craft personalized learning plans, ensuring that each learner’s unique goals are met in a supportive environment. This approach not only enhances individual lives but also strengthens communities by addressing key social justice issues related to literacy and its impact on poverty, health, and equality.
We are thrilled about the upcoming fall season. With the generous grant from MACAE, All Saints Literacy Center will be offering group ESL classes for the first time, starting the week of September 9th. Along with the new group classes, we are expanding our hours and including digital literacy in this year’s curriculum. Registration for our digital literacy program will open this upcoming fall. We are deeply thankful for our community’s ongoing support and anticipate a fruitful year ahead!
