MC Magic Story Below

Local community organizer Nora Rodriguez will be performing at MC Magics’ first headlining show in Detroit.

MC Magic will be performing at The Majestic on June 24th and Southwest’s own, Nora Rodriguez will be one of the many performers joining the show as Nora Yvelle, which is her stage name Rodriguez took the risk and reached out to Chicano Rapper MC Magic, knowing this was his first time in Detroit and she took the jump to let him know Detroit has that flow.

“I’m gonna just write this dude and see the opportunity there. Nothing can hurt. Right? He gave me his number outta nowhere; I didn’t ask him to gimme a gig. I just told him I’m an artist and community organizer, and if you ever need anything, let me know, or if you ever want to collaborate,” said Rodriguez Nora, who is also a community organizer, leaned on music to be her outlet. She grew up listening to different genres and sounds. Mostly, Chicano artists and all the other hip-hop and pop artists that were taking over in the nineties.

“Everything started as a child. My mom probably sang to me when I was in her belly and it turned into me. We were real close and we would listen to music and sing together. And a lot of it had to do with the radio stations that she had on. She would listen to 100.3 WNIC and Tex-Mex. You know, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Juan Gabriel, Selena, all the different styles of music,” said Rodriguez.

As she explored her own style with R&B, she was invited to the Latin Freestyle scene. Where she developed her sound and also released her song Secret Admirer. The song to which MC Magic recognized and invited her on stage.

“I know it is a big deal and I think that it’s gonna grow on me as I’m on the stage and after I’m gonna feel that whole effect then, you know. But, right now, I know that it is a big deal because this is MC Magic, a lot of people grew up listening to him. He’s coming to Detroit for his first time and he took a chance,” said Rodriguez.

You can see Nora and other Southwest Chicano artists perform at the Majestic 6/24 at 7PM. For Tickets go to mcmagicconcerts.com. To keep up with Nora and her journey follow her on Instagram @nora_yvelle_music_313 and on tik tok @Nora_yvelle313

Who is MC Magic?

Marco Cardenas, better known by his stage name MC Magic, is a Mexican-born American rapper, songwriter and record producer known for singing and rapping for Chicano culture, both in English and Spanish. He is also the creator, producer founder of NastyBoy Records, Nastyboy Klick NB Ridaz and under his record label he has a new artist that goes by the name Jay Roxxx MC Magic was born Marco Cardenas on June 29, 1977 in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. At the age of five, his family immigrated to the United States and Cardenas grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. At the age of thirteen, his friend Rob taught him to play the drum machine and Cardenas began working as a DJ. He graduated from Agua Fria High School in 1985.

MC Magic has released multiple solo albums including Magic City in 2006, which peaked at number one on the Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart and at number 60 for Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums. MC Magic’s newfound success as a solo artist motivated him to continue his successful run, with his follow-up album Magic City Part II which was released in June 2008. Magic City Part II featured some of the hottest artists in the game with guest appearances from Baby Bash, Too Short, Chingo Bling, Big Gemini, and DJ Kane of the Kumbia Kings. Magic City Part II peaked at number 6 on the Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart and contained hit songs such as “Princesa”, “Girl I Love You,” and “The Only 1.”

MC Magic’s highly anticipated next album The Rewire was released in 2011. The Rewire album
contained several hits for MC Magic such the single “Diggin” which is an up-tempo rap record, produced by The Orphanz featuring Twista and upcoming rapper Snow Da Product. As MC Magic released “Diggin”, he also introduced his first all-Spanish Rap Banda record called “Todos Mis Diaz” hoping to compete in the Spanish market.

MC Magic was the morning DJ on Power 98.3 Magic City Radio in Phoenix, Arizona where he
continues to inspire his fans. In Mexico, MC Magic has made appearances in Urban Fest 2 and collaborated with C-Kan to produce singles like “Quiero Que Sepas,” “Loco,” and “Mujer Bonita” (A Mexican remix of “Pretty Girl”).

Currently, MC MAGIC is on tour and one of his stops will be here in Detroit, MI at the Majestic
Theatre on Woodward June 24th, where Lil Rob, Baby Bash, and Jay Roxxx, and our local up and coming dance/R&B artist Nora Yvelle from Southwest Detroit is going to be opening along with other local Chicano artists.
