Summer fun is in full swing at Clark Park, and every weekday from 12 – 7 pm there’s something for everyone! The excitement continues all season long until Friday, August 17.
“We’re excited about the activities we have planned for the season,” said Executive Director Anthony Benavides. “We’ve got everything from baseball and softball, to tennis, flag football, and lacrosse. And, we have lots of new amenities which include the new accessible playground, basketball court, tennis and pickleball courts, and our new and very popular splash pad.”
Program Manager Beto Gallagos added, “the mobile library will visit each week. The Pistons are providing additional classes; and, of course, there are lots of special events including the Arts & Culture Freedom Festival July 20, FREC City Fun Day July 27, and Shakespeare in Detroit August 10.
Program Coordinator Dora Anaya is coordinating the summer free lunch program in partnership with Earhart School. “We typically serve lunches to around 100 youth Monday through Friday,” she said. “We believe it’s very important for all of our youth to get a nutritious lunch every day.”
The Clark Park Coalition provides an array of diverse, high-quality recreational, educational, social and mentoring programs for southwest Detroit’s families, with the goal of fostering the development of southwest Detroit’s youth into responsible, self-confident adults.
