Over the weekend, the community’s signature festival returned to the Senate Theatre in Southwest Detroit for its fifth year, once again uniting the community to celebrate art, music, and food. By keeping the event free, the festival ensures that the love of art remains accessible to all in Southwest Detroit.
Community organizations such as Inside Southwest Detroit, The Detroit Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, and Urban Neighborhood Initiatives were also present, showing the festival’s focus on resources, connection, and community support.
Detroit’s own local talent was also showcased throughout the event — with artists displaying their work at booths, short films screening on the Senate stage, and more than 40 musicians performing across three stages: the Senate Theatre Stage, the Coney Stage, and the SWFest Main Stage. Highly anticipated performances such as those of Detroit stars Racquel Soledad, Gabriel Duran, and Curtis Roach drew energized crowds to the main stage.
Led by organizers including Gabriel Duran, Amelia Duran and Anthony Bryant, the event highlights the collective growth of the community, celebration of culture, creativity, and a shared love of Southwest Detroit.
