Sound Check

Music from the Local and Global Stage

Week 11-13-25

Local

TRUST1 -DEMACIIIO, FRANCO EAST

Southwest’s own Demaciiio goes bar-for-bar with Franco East on Trust1, a raw 2-minute-17-second statement of self-belief and wordplay in a soul-sam- pled, hauntingly repetitive piano-driven soundscape.

Global

RELIQUIA – ROSALIA

Reliquia finds Rosalía naming cities across the globe over a trap-orchestral fusion—deep bass pulsing under sweeping strings in a meditative, lingering haze.

Standing proudly in the lobby of Taquería Mi Pueblo, Trago is a towering alebrije crafted by artist Ricardo Linares García of Mexico City, descendant of the legendary Linares family who first brought these fantastical creatures to life. The piece fuses the crest and front legs of a axoltín, the hind legs of a jaguar and a bear, the head of an eagle, and the wings and tail of a dragon.

Before it became the future site of Detroit City FC’s new stadium, this corner of Michigan Avenue and 20th Street was home to Southwest Detroit Hospital, opened in 1974 through the merger of four minority hospitals. Serving more than 200,000 Black, Arab, and Hispanic residents, it was among the first in Detroit to accredit Black doctors and nurses.
