This campaign is about the numbers and our values. The complete truth is that 8% of registered voters voted for the top vote getter and 3% voted for the second highest vote getter. This means that, respectively, 92% and 97% of Detroiter’s chose to either not vote (82%) or voted for someone other than the top two candidates (7%).
This is why the day after the primary I filed my paperwork to continue running for Mayor as a write-in candidate for the general election, to give Detroiter’s a choice and a chance to secure Detroit’s future as a Democratic city. While several issues have risen to the forefront during the primary, as of last week, none more important than the basis for our democratic system, the VOTE and your rights to exercise it. An independent gubernatorial candidate’s endorsement of a mayoral candidate is clearly intended to influence the outcome and results of not just one, but two and quite possibly, the next three elections. The primary left us with 450,000 voters whose voices were not, but need to be heard on November 4th. The overwhelming majority of these voices are Democrats who over the next four years, are now, and will be, responsible for the future of our city, state and nation.
The stakes have never been higher. Let me take this opportunity to underscore my commitment to Democracy and the Democratic Party. If elected, I will preserve your right to choose by not endorsing any candidate in the gubernatorial primary. That said, I will support the Democratic candidate for Governor with the goal of keeping Michigan viable as one of the seven swing states going into 2028, an essential goal to our nation’s course correction strategy. Ever since 2008, every election has been decided in, and by, Wayne County by margins averaging 20,000, voting or not voting. While voter apathy and frustration with the system is understandable, dropping out is not the solution. Not voting is voting, most often, against your own best interest.
During the primary there were many expressions about taking our city back. With a considerable number of elections producing less than 20% voter turnout; the question becomes; have people taken it or have we given it away by not voting? Detroit, you have a choice!
I began my commitment to improving the quality of life for our citizens over fifty years ago when invited to join New Detroit. Their mission was grounded in the pursuit of Community Self Determination. At its core this begins with and can only be achieved by exercising our right to vote. I invite you to invest some time in visiting my web site, LandinforMayor.com, and click on the Community Self Determination link and you will see a direct link to the state to register to vote. Additional updates will be forthcoming this week. Make no mistake, the current Trump administration is committed to minimizing, if not, eroding our voting rights. Nothing short of voting and being counted will counter their interpretation that our not voting as not caring. In order to secure our rights, provide for justice and solidify our role as guardians of Democracy, we must uphold and honor the Constitution, including the separation of church and state.
Growth is a foundational issue for both our city and our state. Write-in candidate R o g e l i o L a n d i n , is the only candidate offering a viable solution to increase our city’s population to over one million, achievable by the 2030 census. At the current rate of 6,000 per year, it will take 100 years to double. Utilizing Annexation, we can do it in four years, allowing us to realize efficiencies through economies of scale.
Education at every level is fundamental to our prospects for the present and future. I am the only candidate who believes in you, the people, and providing you with a hand-up approach to self-sufficiency and by extension self-determination. Thirty years of failure to improve our education system demands we take our schools back and adopt a strong Mayor model to improve outcomes. Every applicable metric is negative and is unacceptable and unsustainable. We need to encourage everyone to engage in upskilling to secure their present and future. Currently, 26 billion dollars a year is being left on the table in tuition reimbursement benefits offered by 80% of employers but only utilized by 5% of employees.
Housing Analysis: 900 units in 5 years at $1 Billion; to reach 10,000 units at that rate it would take 50 Years and $10 billion, and we would still be 36,000 units short of what we need today, imagine what our need will be in 50 years. Solution: It would be faster and more cost effective to build up our human capital to meet the market as part of a comprehensive economic development strategy.
Additional considerations; DMC Medical & Health, Regional Transit, World Trade Center, International Logistics, Port and Trade Infrastructure, Innovation Hubs and Corridors. All of these projects are solid and access to venture capital has been negotiated and will be provided for by African American capitalists. I have acquired access to $100 Billion dedicated to humanitarian projects for our city which will still leave an abundance of resources to do community development.
Voters Matter most when they VOTE! Vote your values.
