No Kings and No Crowns, Thousands Rally Against Trump Policies in Southwest Detroit

“Whose streets? Our streets! Whose country? Our country!” is the call and response chant that echoed down W. Vernor Hwy as thousands gathered to march in the #NoKings mass mobilization.

June 14th, 2025, will be remembered in history as the day that people all over the country came together against hate and in opposition of the policies of Donald Trump and his administration.

There were more than 2,000 #NoKings rallies held across the United States  demonstrating that authoritarianism and billionaire-first politics have no place here.

In Michigan, with 72 rallies and marches planned across the state, an estimated 5,000 people gathered at Clark Park to speak up and take a stand against Trump’s policies on immigration, DEI, Medicaid, education, LGBTQ, the environment and more.

Saturday’s rally included performances and speeches from local community members in Southwest to local elected officials like Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, State Representative Donovan McKinney and Detroit Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago-Romero, who all shared the belief that what is happening in our communities under this administration is not acceptable.

The march quickly followed after the rally and thousands took to the streets down W. Vernor to Michigan Ave to continue the demonstration in front of the U.S Department of Homeland Security and the offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Federal Building.

Despite small and minor disruptions from counter protesters and far-right supporters, the rally and march remained safe and peaceful. Keeping the message at the forefront, there is no room for kings or crowns here in Detroit or in the United States, for that matter.
