Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) (AOC) stopped by the Harris-Walz campaign office in Southwest Detroit last Saturday morning, November 2, to speak to dozens of energized volunteers. Her message was simple: Talk to your neighbors, family and friends about the positive difference a vote for Kamala Harris will make in the lives of all Americans. Personal, heartfelt conversations matter!
After her Detroit stop, AOC traveled to Ann Arbor to speak at a rally with students and supporters on the campus of the University of Michigan. There, she elaborated on her campaign message.
“Every single vote matters. Every single vote counts,” the congressmember said. “This race is going to come down to the margin… the margin of effort… We’re doing this for $15 minimum wage. We’re doing this to guarantee healthcare for every American. We’re doing this to take our bodies back. We’re doing this to codify Roe v. Wade… We’re going to send Kamala Harris to be the first woman president of the United States! I don’t think there’s a better way to respond to Donald Trump than sending a woman to the White House. ”
The local Harris-Walz campaign HQ was a busy place when it opened at 4126 W Vernor where supporters could pick up yard signs, posters and literature or volunteer to help with calls and door to door canvassing.
Editor’s Note: Voting was still in progress on Tuesday, November 5 when this issue of EL CENTRAL Hispanic News went to press. We’ll include full coverage of the results of the election and the impact on our community – as they are known at the time we go to press next week.
