Editorial Opinion “The Fifth, I take the Fifth”

Former presidential advisor to donald j. Trump — steve bannon is steps away, days and hours from being sentenced to prison for up to a year.

Hes that close to being jailed because he is an obstreperous bully whose attempt to overthrow the united states of america got in the way of his scandalous con job to rip off trump followers of their hard earned money. He was indicted for that but pardoned by his buddy trump. Trump spared him the present indignity of having a federal court rule that bannon and his lawyers are idiots. The bannon coup attempt to somehow rescue trump from the worst defeat in american political history totally backfired on bannon when he disdainfully refused to honior a subpoena from the select january 6 house committee by, of all the stupid things he could think of, claimed that he was covered by executive privilege, presidential executive privilege that only the president of the united states can claim. As bannon was not a government employee when the events of january 6, 2021, occurred, he had no possibility of executive privilege. None.

Nonetheless, he did not honor the subpoena for an appearance in front of the committee to provide documents. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts: his non- appearance and for not turning over requested documents. Opinions in this article are not necessarily those of the publisher or editor suddenly, bannon says trump has lifted executive privilege and he, bannon, will testify but only in public and on live television. Fat chance. He can testify like everyone else, in private in a deposition. He goes to trial next week, july 18. The federal judge in the court ruled today that bannon cannot claim executive privilege and when one of his smart- ass lawyers popped off to the judge that the judge had taken all his defenses away and that there might as well not be a trial, the judge said you, sir, should think very hard about that. In other words, make a plea deal. Hes guilty and will spend a year in jail if he doesnt deal. The offense is not that he wont testify but is that he missed the date he was supposed to testify and, secondly, to deliver documents. That was months ago. This couldnt happen to a nice man, but it is happening to an equally obnoxious prevaricator of truth and fellow middle- index-finger waving peter navarro. A former trump advisor, he also rejected his subpoena from the select january 6 committee; he also claims executive privilege and he, also, has been indicted, arrested and charged with a federal offense of rejecting a congressional subpoena. The parade of trump miscreants facing courts and jail is starting to swell. Son eric trump (aka fredo from the corleoni movie family, the dumb son) took the fifth amendment over 500 times in a civil case deposition. Hes perhaps unaware that exercising the fifth cannot be held against a nyone in a criminal case but it can be used against a defendant in a civil case. Lt. General michael flynn, u. S. Army (ret) took the fifth many, many times when questioned in a deposition.

A former civil environmental lawyer of the department of justice who criminally tried to overthrow the 2020 election appeared before the select january 6 committee and took the fifth. And, of course, donald j. Trump, himself, took the fifth hundreds of times or claimed he didnt remember what happened or what was said in one of his myriad court appearances in the hundreds of lawssuits he has filed or has had filed against him since he was humbled by a federal court. He didnt pay off a labor union when he used illegal aliens to do the work. Illegal aliens from poland trump said he didnt see every day he went to the work site, the work site which is now new yorks trump tower. Trump tower where the largest tenant was a chinese communist owned bank.
