On July 18, MANA de Metro Detroit held its Annual Brindis Luncheon, a signature event that raises funds for the organization’s scholarship and mentorship programs. This year’s gathering was especially meaningful as it marked MANA’s 30th anniversary of empowering Latinas through education, leadership, advocacy, and community service.

The theme, “Honoring Our Legacy, Embracing Our Future”, set the tone for a heartfelt celebration of three decades of service. Founding members were recognized for their vision and dedication in creating a space where Latina voices could be amplified and supported.

In keeping with tradition, MANA honored exceptional community leaders whose work uplifts the Latino community in Metro Detroit. The 2025 Adelita Awards were presented to three trailblazing women: Cindy Gamboa, Linette Garza, and Sandra Valle-Holdwick. The Amigo of the Year Award went to Jesse Jesus Gonzales, Sr., a steadfast advocate and longtime supporter of MANA.

Since 1996, MANA de Metro Detroit has awarded over $256,000 in scholarships to 187 Latina scholars. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and donors, 23 young women received $2,000 scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

Alejandra Padilla-Miguel (MSU), Andrea Angulo Villaseñor (Henry Ford College), Carolina Angulo (WSU), Deysi Joven Gonzalez (WSU), Jannay Abimeley Gavia (OU), Keila Subillaga-Orellana (WSU), Leslie Almanza-Martinez (WSU), Melany Sanchez-Martinez (WSU), Ximena Gonzalez (OCC), Andrea Cuevas-Garcia (MSU), Chelsi Pizarro-Gonzalez (U of M), Arely Aguirre-Pacheco (U of M), Elizabeth Garcia (WMU), Melanie Calvillo (WSU), Esmeralda Hernandez (U of M), Marisol Angel Gamboa (WSU), Felicitas Gonzalez Membrillo (WCCC), Yoana Arreaga Bartolon (MSU), Ashley Dominguez Correa (U of M), Ashley Romo (MSU), Dayana A.
