MANA de Metro Detroit (MANA) is the local chapter of MANA – A National Latina Organization. Its mission is to empower Latinas and create a better quality of life for all Latinos through education, leadership development, and advocacy. MANA also emphasizes personal empowerment, professional development, networking and community service.
With this mission in mind, MANA established its Scholarship Program in 1996 and has been providing scholarships to Latinas annually. As of 2024, MANA has awarded 164 scholarships to Latinas pursuing a post-secondary degree. The MANA Scholarship award can be used to augment a student’s educational budget to cover costs such as tuition, books, transportation needs, supplies, and other school related expenses.
MANA is pleased to announce that the 2025 scholarship application process is now open and Latina/Hispanic high school seniors, college and/or trade students can apply online at MANA’s website https://www.manademetrodetroit.com.
For this 2025-2026 school year, MANA will award scholarships in six (6) different categories to qualified high school seniors and Latinas attending college or trade schools. Each scholarship award is in the amount of two-thousand ($2,000) dollars. The scholarships are combined in one application that is posted on the MANA website. Applicants that meet the requirements may apply for one or more scholarships, however they will only be awarded one scholarship.
The six scholarship categories are: MANA de Metro Detroit – General Scholarship designed to assist students in any field of study; Carmen Muñoz Entrepreneurship Scholarship to continue Carmen Muñoz’ legacy of entrepreneurism and community engagement; Monica L. Martinez Leadership Scholarship to support students who want to follow Monica Martinez’ footsteps in the fields of leadership and community engagement; Dr. Ellen Ochoa STEM Scholarship to support Latinas seeking to follow Dr. Ochoa’s passion for the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics; Gloria Rosas Teacher Education Scholarship to support students in the field of teacher education and increase the number of Bilingual & ESL teachers; the Eva Garza Dewaelsche Community Service Scholarship to support Latinas seeking a degree or professional certificate in the fields of Social Science, Social Work, Community Organizing, or Urban Planning, or a professional certificate from a vocational school, training center or leadership program.
Who is eligible to apply for these scholarships? Latina/Hispanic women who are seeking a college degree or vocational education and training and who are residents of Detroit and communities in the Metro Detroit Area. High school seniors or individuals with a GED, students who are currently enrolled in college or post-secondary vocational school, and students who would like to renew their MANA scholarship are eligible to apply.
Please visit the MANA of Metro Detroit website (https://www.manademetrodetroit.com ) to get information about each scholarship and to complete the application online. The deadline for returning all applications electronically is April 16, 2025.
MANA scholarships are made possible by the generous donations from our individual and community donors as well as our sponsors. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support Latinas from our community and to give them the opportunity to achieve their educational goals. Your donation will increase the number of scholarships that MANA de Metro Detroit provides our Latinas.
