The Mexican Irish Festival is back indeed! Sunday was a great demonstration of culture, community, and love! Festival organizers Martina Guzman, Christina Guzman, and Angela T. Perez Harris brought together their shared expertise in event planning and community organizing to produce an unforgettable experience.
There was delicious food provided by both Mexican and Irish vendors, activities for the children like art classes in Elton Monroy Duran’s studio, Irish and Mexican bingo, Irish instruments demonstrations by the Irish Music Institute. The energy was high all day with performances by Shannon Irish Dance School, Ballet Folkorico Moyovoyani Izel, Irish Trio – Madigan’s Attic, Ballet Folkorico Joyas De México, Ardan Academy Irish Dance School, and of course closing out this momentous occasion was Mexican band – Conjunto Blindado!
The decor by Under the Rainbow LLC was top notch! Colorful, vibrant and really embodied the festiveness of both cultures!
Breathtaking art display, also known in Mexican culture as a tapete by PanAnte inside the Mercado.
So much fun in the tequila whiskey tasting lounge with DJ Paddy J from Irish Music Cafe, Cabresto and Nancy Whiskey. And can’t forget about Armando “DJ SKIPZ” keeping the party going near our friends over at Donovan’s Pub!
The day also included a Father Kern memorial exhibit by Deborah Rodriguez (member of Holy Trinity Church) of the Father Kern Foundation whom the original festival was created in honor of!
And last but definitely not least, we cannot forget the fabulous emcee and original founder of the Mexican Irish Festival Maria Elena Perea Rodriguez!
Great to see this kind of event in the Southwest Detroit community and already looking forward to next year!
