Registration is open for CEDAM’s Real Estate Development Boot Camp taking place April 28-May 2, 2025 in Detroit! We’re thrilled to host this event at the Detroit Food Commons (above the Detroit People’s Food Co-op), which has its own amazing community-centered development story and will be just one of many projects our participants will have the opportunity to learn about.

The Detroit Food Commons is a two-story, 31,000 sq ft community development project sponsored by the Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network (DBCFSN) and Develop Detroit, Incorporated. This development opened May 1, 2024, and features a co-op grocery store, community space, and a food business incubator, making healthy and affordable food accessible to thousands of Detroit residents.

CEDAM’s Real Estate Development Boot Camp is a multi-part training program designed to give you the tools needed to develop affordable housing in your community. From rising construction costs to new funding sources, our training curriculum is updated each year to provide context around the current real estate development landscape in Michigan. We bring in experienced speakers from across the state and country to discuss practical applications of this work and help you create important connections. Participants of our Detroit Boot Camp will benefit by hearing from local experts, including Detroit-based developers, consultants, and municipal leaders.

Boot Camp organizers welcome anyone to register for this training who is interested in understanding the development process. However, the training curriculum is geared toward helping participants move their community-focused real estate development projects forward. We encourage all participants to bring a potential project (whether it be a potential site or building, or even just an idea) to the training.

Our target audience is:

  • Community members who are interested in revitalizing their community through small-scale housing development projects
  • Nonprofit housing development staff who may be seeking to actualize a range of housing and community development projects

Our secondary target audience is:

  • City staff officials, community partners, foundations, or others who may be involved in the development process in some capacity

Whether you are new to the field or need a refresher on the basics, this training is for you! Those who join the training and do not have a potential project will have the opportunity to collaborate with those who do when we apply our learning through a final project pitch to funders.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on training program. Because capacity is limited and demand is high, registrants must commit to being active participants and be available to attend all five days of the training.

CEDAM hosts this training twice a year, in both a rural and urban Michigan community.

Registration will close April 4, 2025 at 5:00 PM

Register today at https://app.glueup.com/event/cedams-2025-real-estate-development-boot-camp-133337/
