Southwest Detroit Restaurant Week (SWDRW) is back again for the 3rd year! This celebration of Latin American cuisine is a 10-day event including more than 20 restaurants with “Latin Roots”.

As in previous iterations, the participating restaurants will offer an exclusive “heritage dish,” one that is not on the menu and will not be available once the event is over. Additionally, this year, the event will feature an inaugural Food Truck Rally at Batch Brewing Company.

SWDRW’s main goal is to invite and inform people about Latin American culture and heritage, specifically in Detroit, while increasing foot traffic via discovery. Each of the restaurants’ recipes will exemplify a form of the authenticity of its roots, many of these dishes people have not tried before.

This year’s 10-Day event starts on Friday September 30th and will conclude on Sunday October 9th. A list of participating restaurants will be available at swdetroitrestaurantweek.com in early September.

The Food Truck Rally will take place on Monday October 10th, between 4 – 10 pm at Batch Brewing Company, located at 1400 Porter St, Detroit, MI 48216.

SWDRW organizers are dedicating this year’s event to Monica Echeverri Casarez, an original co-founder of the event. She was an integral part of its creation and an influential and passionate individual who was dedicated to bettering the world before she left it. She was a fierce advocate whose passion and drive continue to resonate within the community. With Mrs. Casarez passing away due to COVID-19, Juan Carlos Dueweke-Pérez and others took on the task of continuing a legacy she sparked.

This year’s SWDRW would not be possible without the leadership of Juan Carlos Dueweke-Perez of Featherstone, Leslie Vargas of La Jalisciense, Jorge Casarez (husband of the late Monica Casarez, original co-founder of the event), Mayte Penman from TechTown Detroit, Shaffwan Ahmed, Chef Ederique Goudia from Gabriel Hall, Chef Amanda Saab, and Fatou-Seydi Sarr of African Bureau of Immigration and Social Affairs.

For more information, including joining this event as a volunteer, follow the event’s Instagram and Facebook page.
