For the sixth consecutive year, the Talentos Latinos Awards recognized 11 individuals and an educational institution for their contributions to Michigan’s Hispanic community.

During the voting process, which took place in August, 10,424 votes were cast, selecting Latinos from various parts of the state, including Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Lake Orion, Milford, Warren, and Washington. This level of participation reflected the commitment and pride of the Latino community in honoring men and women who are positively contributing in areas such as art, communications, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and philanthropy in Michigan.

Additionally, a special recognition was given to the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) program at Wayne State University for its 53 years of dedication to promoting Latin culture and studies.

The 2024 Talentos Latinos Awards recognized the following:

  • Latina Community Leader Award: Monique Saucedo
  • Friend of Latinos Award: Amanda Holiday
  • Latino Altruism Award: Mónica Navarro Vezina
  • Latina Activist Artist Award: Fátima Meléndez McGrew
  • Michigan Latino Media Personality Award: Martina Gúzman
  • Latina Business Ambassador Award: María Méndez
  • Michigan Latina Entrepreneur Award: Elena Morales
  • Latino Musical Talent Award: Rosa Lina Morales
  • Latino Volunteer Award: Tony A. Méndez
  • Latino Education Leader Award: Germán Reyes-Villanueva, Ph.D. (University of Michigan)
  • Inspiration Award: Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) (Wayne State University)
  • Latino Legacy Award: Myrna Segura-Beltchenko

The keynote speaker for the event was Danette Duron-Willner, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at RKT Holdings, who shared her inspiring story as the daughter of Latino immigrants. Despite the challenges, she was the first in her family to attend college and went on to become a successful Hispanic professional.

Daniela Díaz, Miss México Detroit 2024, was the official host of the event and encouraged young Hispanic women to participate in the upcoming pageant, which will take place in December.

The event began with a prayer led by Pastor Ricardo Granados from Pan de Vida Church in Detroit and was attended by community leaders from cities such as Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Saginaw. Special guests included Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and Mexican painter Alberto Marín, who presented a piece dedicated to Liliana Ospina Herbstreith.

This year, as with every edition of the Talentos Latinos Awards, the cultural diversity of the Hispanic community was celebrated. There were live performances by talented Latino artists like Kenya Cruz, Rosa Lina Morales, Adel Ruelas, and TommyPapi. Additionally, there were folkloric dances from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Spain, El Salvador, and Mexico.

The Talentos Latinos Awards go beyond celebrating Hispanic culture; their main objective is to recognize the unsung Latino heroes—hardworking individuals who contribute every day to making Michigan and the United States a better place. These unsung heroes, who are Latino volunteers, educators, artists, and entrepreneurs, represent the backbone of the Hispanic community, and it is an honor for the event organizers to acknowledge their efforts.

Thanks to the support of volunteers and sponsors like Rocket Companies, Ideal Group, Comerica Bank, Amezola, Anna Motors INC, Oakland Thrive, Prince Valley Market, and Junction Party Store, it was possible to amplify the voices of Michigan’s Hispanic community and highlight its achievements.

The Talentos Latinos Awards are celebrated during Hispanic Heritage Month and serve as a reminder of the power of the Hispanic/Latino community in the U.S. Their spirit of resilience and commitment to their community’s well-being has made this community an essential pillar for the economy not only in Michigan but throughout the entire country.

  • Premio Talento Musical Latino: Rosa Lina Morales
  • Premio Voluntario Latino: Tony A. Méndez
  • Premio Líder Educativo Latino: Germán Reyes-Villanueva, Ph.D. (Universidad de Michigan)
  • Premio Inspiración: Centro para Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) (Wayne State University)
  • Premio Legado Latino: Myrna Segura-Beltchenko
