In celebration of its status as the first public museum in the United States to purchase a painting by Vincent van Gogh—Self-Portrait, 1887, which was acquired in 1922—the Detroit Institute of Arts has organized the first exhibition dedicated to the introduction and early reception of the iconic artist’s work in America, “Van Gogh in America”. The exhibit opened on October 2nd and runs through January 22, 2023, at the DIA. The exhibit features 74 authentic Vincent van Gogh works, including the Self-Portrait, 1887 piece, and many other paintings and drawings from all over the world.
Tickets are $14-$29 for adults; discounted prices for residents in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
