With the motto: “In Barranquilla we dance like this”, the celebrations of the Barranquilla Carnival began, although this will be from March 1 to 4 of this 2025, since January 18 the pre-carnival celebrations began, having as one of the preponderant moments the concert of Shakira, the ambassador of the carnival, on February 21.

The Carnival is a holiday of religious origin and is celebrated in different parts of the world, the most important being the following: Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Carnival of Barranquilla, Colombia; Carnival of Venice, Italy; Carnival of Tenerife, Spain; Carnival of Cologne, Germany; Carnival of Cadiz, Spain; Carnival of Notting Hill, United Kingdom; Mardi Gras, New Orleans. Its two greatest exponents are the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro and the Carnival of Barranquilla.

This year, the Barranquilla Carnival will be from March 1 to 4. However, it begins with the pre-carnival celebrations, which this year began last week with the Reading of the Decree, in which the Mayor of the Port hands the keys of the city to the Carnival Queen, this year Tatiana Angulo, who will read the decree, the Decree with which the go-ahead is given and what is allowed and what is prohibited for those attending the party is established.

For this year, the celebration this week will be the Coronations of the Popular Queens and thus a series of continuous events.

With the parades of dancers to the sound of Latin rhythms in which the fusion that distinguishes Colombia converges. With bright colors, floats and costumes, the music does its thing with the body of each one of the members of the comparsas or dance groups. The celebrations will fill the streets of Barranquilla with joy.

As you can see in the program, the program is a display of celebrations, such as the Children’s Carnival.

And although the Carnival itself, this year, runs from Saturday, March 1st to Tuesday, March 4th, one day before Ash Wednesday, the day that the period of Lent begins. Lent is the period that we Catholics observe to observe, fast and have austerity, hence the days before the color and festivity are the preceding symbol.
