SER Metro-Detroit celebrated its 52nd Anniversary at its Annual Amigos de SER Business Recognition Luncheon held at the MGM Grand on March 25, 2024. Its keynote speaker was Mr. Matt Buckley, President and COO of the Midwest Group, MGM Resorts International.
The Luncheon included an awards ceremony recognizing the many partners, funders, and employers who invest in the Detroit community through SER’s work. This year’s “Amigo of the Year Award” was presented to MGM Grand Detroit for their ongoing partnership and support of SER Metro’s programs for over 20 years. LM Manufacturing received the “Employer of the Year Award” for hiring more than 600 SER graduates and program participants during the past year.
The “Journey to Success” awards were presented to program graduates Arturo Lopez, Brianna Sadler, Edgad N. Urbina, and Sarah Williamson. Two additional graduates, Daisy Ovelle and Amarr Scott, will each receive $1,000 in honor of the “Frank D. Stella Scholarship Program”.
A check for $500,000 was presented to SER Metro for their Youth Reengagement Center by the Michigan State Legislature, led by Senator Mary Cavanagh and supported by Senators Stephanie Chang, Darrin Camillari, and Representative Veronica Paiz who were in attendance. More than 550 guests attended the event which had been rescheduled from last fall due to the MGM workers’ strike.
