EL CENTRAL Hispanic News welcomes filmmaker and screenwriter Michael D. Gutierrez in a newly created role as our Digital Content Manager, tapping his decade-plus experience in the film and television industry to enhance our established online presence and develop innovative storytelling formats.
Michael will bring his experience working in Hollywood to create content that entertains and informs, from managing our Spanish-language radio program “Voz Latina” on WDET 101.9 HD2 (which is actively looking for volunteers!) to producing new podcasts, all of which will amplify our community impact and bolster our online presence. He will also lead and support our volunteer writers who cover entertainment, culture, and arts, ensuring timely and relevant stories that resonate with you — our loyal readers.
Originally from Southwest Detroit, Michael brings a unique Mexi-Rican perspective to the newsroom. His diverse background includes contributions to projects in film and scripted TV, such as the Oscar-nominated THE HOLDOVERS and season 2 of LETHAL WEAPON on Fox. He is an active member of the Writers Guild of America-West and its Latino Writers Committee and has contributed to Latino film festivals and arts organizations across the nation.
Michael’s authentic storytelling style – shaped by his family’s tortilla shop roots and formal film education at Chapman University – focuses on character-driven stories that explore the American Latino experience, making him an exciting addition to our team.
“We’re especially excited to welcome Michael to the team,” said Managing Editor Robert Dewaelsche. “Michael brings dynamic energy and a wealth of experience to his work and his expertise will launch EL CENTRAL’s presence on our existing and new digital platforms to new heights.”
As Digital Content Manager, Michael will support the vital role EL CENTRAL plays in serving the Latino community in metro Detroit and beyond. You can reach him directly at michael@doxiecreative.com for any digital content inquiries or collaborations.
