On March 15, a delegation of 11 journalists and editors from Estonia visited the offices of EL CENTRAL as part of an international exchange program coordinated by Global Ties Detroit. The visiting media experts were interested in learning more about EL CENTRAL’s partnership with the Race and Justice Reporting Initiative to diversify our newsroom and give minorities and women a greater voice while promoting representative democracy.

Martina Guzman, Director of the Race and Justice Reporting Initiative, and Robert Dewaelsche, Managing Editor, shared their perspectives on their partnership which began in the summer of 2022.

“The experience gave us an opportunity to pause to reflect on our work together and our shared goals of diversifying the EL CENTRAL newsroom and offer more original reporting for and about our diverse community to our readers and viewers online,” Dewaelsche said.
