Located just five minutes from Michigan Central Station, a former ice cream shop at the corner of Vernor and Ferdinand has been transformed into Postal Total, a bilingual all-in-one pack-and- ship center serving Southwest Detroit and Windsor, Canada.

Postal Total opened in late July and currently offers USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL ship- ping services under one roof, including Amazon returns and international options. The store also provides mailbox rentals, printing, walk-in notary, passport photos, and will soon add U-Haul truck rentals to its lineup.

To mark its launch, Postal Total will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, September 26, from 4–7 p.m. featuring giveaways, free passport photos, face painting for kids, local food vendors, and a social media contest with a $100 La Jaliscience gift card as the grand prize. The event will also support local non-profits The Wave Project and Motor City Music Club with a donation drive for snacks and winter gear.

Bridging a Gap in Southwest Detroit

“All-in-one shipping centers are common in the suburbs but rare in Detroit’s neighborhoods,” said Lindsay Hamby, co-owner of Postal Total. “Southwest is one of the most densely populated areas of the city with strong international ties, yet it lacked a one-stop bilingual shipping option with all four major carriers – USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL – under one roof. We wanted to change that.”

Her husband and co-own- er Myles Hamby added, “Southwest and Corktown are full of entrepreneurs working from home. Our mailboxes are affordable, professional, and secure, helping people protect their privacy while growing their businesses. We also serve residents in Windsor, Canada looking for a Detroit mailing address.”

For the Hambys, Postal Total is more than a business. Myles, whose grandparents immigrat- ed from Argentina and Iran, says his international family ties make him excited to open in a neighborhood with such global connections. “We know how important it is for people to stay connected with loved ones across borders,” he said. “Postal Total lets us provide that service while honoring the international spirit of this community.”

To carry that vision forward, they hired Anita Colón, a longtime Southwest resident and community leader, as the Store Operator. Anita not only provides trusted bilingual service, but many times she already knows the person walking through the door. As part of its community commitment, Postal Total also offers 50% off printing services for students every Thursday, helping young people access resources for school and projects.
