On September 29, 2022, SER Metro-Detroit will proudly celebrate its 50th Anniversary at its Annual Amigos de SER Business Recognition Luncheon to be held at 12pm at the Detroit Marriott – Renaissance Center in Detroit.

SER Metro-Detroit will hold its first in-person Amigos de SER Business Recognition Luncheon after nearly three years of a global pandemic. For this year’s Luncheon SER Metro announced its keynote speaker will be Curtis C.Farmer, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comerica Incorporated and Comerica Bank. He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in April, 2019 and assumed the role of Chairman in January 2020. Prior to joining Comerica, Farmer was with Wachovia Corporation of Charlotte, N.C., where he served as Executive Vice President, Wealth Management. Under Farmer’s leadership, Comerica has been named among the top companies for diversity and inclusion by Diversity Inc., Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency and The Civic 50, among others.

In addition, the Luncheon will include an awards ceremony recognizing the many partners and employers who invest in SER Metro and provide support and employment opportunities for our graduates, making it possible for them to succeed and improve their quality of life.

This year’s Amigo Award will be presented to Comerica Bank for their ongoing financial support of SER Metro’s financial literacy and skilled trades programs. Additionally, AT&T will be recognized for its long-term partnership with SER to provide connectivity and access to technology and IT training to our underserved communities.

SER will present the “Employer of the Year Award” to Magna Seating for hiring more than 50 SER graduates/participants with a special focus on our Opportunity Youth (youth ages 18-24) who are disengaged from school and work, returning citizens or justice involved residents, and adults who have been long-term unemployed.

The Luncheon Program will give special recognition to Ignacio Salazar, former president and CEO of SER Metro-Detroit, who left in 2007 to become CEO of the SER National office in Dallas.

And finally, SER Metro will continue its tradition of recognizing the outstanding achievements of its graduates by presenting the “Journey to Success” awards to individuals who successfully graduated and completed their programs, including Wesley Dominguez, Tracey Riggs, Ivory Frith-Walker and Aron Castlin. They have all overcome enormous challenges in pursuing their education and career goals.

Two graduates who are attending a higher education institution will receive a scholarship from the Frank D. Stella Scholarship Program in recognition of their exemplary academic achievements: Johanna Flores and Onyekachi Olisakwe will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship that will be presented by Frank Stella’s children Stephen Stella and Mary Ann Stella.

To register for this year’s event or for information on sponsorship opportunities, please visit SER Metro’s website at http://www.sermetro.org or email amigos@sermetro.org.
