DETROIT — Music, dance, art and tradition came together Sept. 12 during the eighth edition of the Colores de México Gala, organized by CasArt Foundation. Held under the theme “Bajo las Estrellas de Guerrero” — “Under the Stars of Guerrero” — the evening celebrated the cultural diversity of the Mexican state of Guerrero while also marking a moment of transition for Luly del Real, who reflected on the legacy she has built and making way for new generations.
Held at The International Banquet & Conference Center at the Atheneum Suites Hotel in Detroit, the gala featured performances by Ballet Folclórico Joyas de México, a runway show with creations inspired by the different regions of Guerrero, an art exhibition, music, dinner and dancing. Performers included Rosalina “La Güera,” José Pepe Love, Kenya Cruz and La Mexicana y El Gringo.
The gala also featured the presentation of the Infinity Art Awards, which recognize the talent, dedication and careers of creators who enrich the local cultural landscape. This year’s honorees were Jesús Ibarra, Dominique Gómez and, posthumously, Fabiola “Fabi” Rodas.
Rodas was one of the pioneers of Ballet Folclórico Joyas de México. Her son accepted the award on her behalf. Del Real remembered her as a fundamental part of the project and noted that her children continue to dance. “She was my shoulder to lean on; she was an essential part of this ballet,” Del Real said.
For Del Real, however, the gala also carried a deeply personal meaning. “Today marks a before and an after. Today I leave a legacy, and that is extremely important to me,” she said. While making clear that she is not leaving entirely, Del Real said she will take a break and focus on other endeavors, including helping younger generations continue the work.
That legacy is closely tied to what Del Real sees as the purpose of Colores de México: preserving cultural identity even while living far from one’s country of origin. “This is my mission here: to keep our culture alive, no matter that we have left our country,” she said.
As part of the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, the evening also included the participation of the Mexican Consulate in Detroit and the traditional Grito de Independencia ceremony. Deputy Consul Daniel Aguado highlighted the Consulate’s collaboration with organizations that work directly with Mexican families in Michigan.
“We collaborate, but thanks to them, we are able to refer many Mexican families who need their services to the appropriate resources,” Aguado said, noting that community organizations also provide spaces and help the Consulate share information about its services.
Amid awards, folklore and celebration, Bajo las Estrellas de Guerrero ultimately looked toward the future as well: a night dedicated to preserving a culture and to those who will carry it forward for generations to come.

DETROIT — Música, danza, arte y tradición se unieron el 12 de septiembre durante la octava edición de la Gala Colores de México, organizada por CasArt Foundation. Bajo el lema “Bajo las Estrellas de Guerrero”, la velada celebró la diversidad cultural del estado mexicano de Guerrero y marcó también un momento de transición para Luly del Real, quien habló del legado construido y de dar paso a nuevas generaciones.
Celebrada en The International Banquet & Conference Center del Atheneum Suites Hotel, en Detroit, la gala incluyó presentaciones del Ballet Folclórico Joyas de México, una pasarela con creaciones inspiradas en las diferentes regiones de Guerrero, exposición de arte, música, cena y baile. Entre los artistas que participaron estuvieron Rosalina “La Güera”, José Pepe Love, Kenya Cruz y La Mexicana y El Gringo.
La gala también fue escenario de la entrega de los Infinity Art Awards, reconocimientos que celebran el talento, la dedicación y trayectoria de creadores que enriquecen el panorama cultural local. Este año fueron distinguidos Jesús Ibarra, Dominique Gómez y, de manera póstuma, Fabiola “Fabi” Rodas.
Rodas fue una de las pioneras del Ballet Folclórico Joyas de México. Su hijo recibió el reconocimiento en su nombre. Del Real la recordó como una parte fundamental del proyecto y destacó que sus hijos continúan bailando. “Ella era mi hombro, era parte esencial de este ballet”, expresó.
Para Del Real, sin embargo, la gala tuvo un significado especialmente personal. “Hoy es un antes y un después. Hoy dejo un legado, que para mí es importantísimo”, dijo. Aunque aclaró que no se marcha, señaló que tomará una pausa y se concentrará en otras tareas, entre ellas apoyar a las nuevas generaciones para que continúen el trabajo.
Ese legado está estrechamente relacionado con el propósito que Del Real atribuye a Colores de México: conservar la identidad cultural aun lejos del país de origen. “Esta es mi labor aquí, la de mantener viva nuestra cultura, no importa que hayamos salido de nuestro país”, afirmó.
En el marco de las Fiestas Patrias, la celebración contó además con la participación del Consulado de México en Detroit y la ceremonia del Grito de Independencia. El Cónsul Adscrito Daniel Aguado destacó la colaboración entre el Consulado y las organizaciones que trabajan directamente con las familias mexicanas en Michigan.
“Nosotros colaboramos, pero podemos canalizar gracias a ellos a muchas de las familias mexicanas que tienen necesidad de sus servicios”, explicó, resaltando que las organizaciones comunitarias también facilitan espacios y ayudan al Consulado a divulgar sus servicios.
Entre reconocimientos, folclore y celebración, Bajo las Estrellas de Guerrero terminó así mirando también hacia el futuro: una noche dedicada a preservar una cultura y a quienes continuarán llevándola a nuevas generaciones.
