Sr. Cathey Desantis, CSJ, (right) joined her fellow Congregation of St. Joseph sisters in advo- cating for a more humane immigration policy. Sr. Desantis said at times, all the sisters feel they can do is demonstrate on behalf of migrants am

Many people at the demonstration carried faith-based signs calling for recognizing the presence of God in migrants and immigrants. All photos credited to Daniel Meloy for Detroit Catholic.

Kim Redigan, a member of Gesu Parish in Detroit and director of campus ministry at Detroit Cristo Rey High School, holds a sign in solidarity with separated families.

People hold electric candlelights during a silent prayer vigil on Michigan Avenue in front of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Detroit office.
