Elton Monroy, a highly regarded visual artist and muralist, has been a resident of Southwest Detroit since 2015. His passion for celebrating and promoting Mexican and Latino culture through vivid and vibrant murals has garnered attention throughout the city and its surrounding areas. What makes Monroy’s murals so distinctive is their ability to capture traditional Mexican elements and icons while also incorporating members of the Southwest Detroit community.

His artwork not only showcases the beauty and richness of Mexican culture but also highlights the significant contributions of Latinas and Latinos to society. It is no surprise that Monroy was recently honored with the prestigious “Infinity Art Award” by the CasArt Foundation Gala, presented by founder of the CasArt Foundation, Luly Del Real.

Luly Del Real, the founder of CasArt, explained that receiving an art award is a crucial stepping stone for artists, as it acknowledges their talent and dedication and serves as a source of inspiration for local artists.

The fifth edition of the CasArt Gala, “Ecos de la Guelaguetza,” featured a plethora of traditional folkloric dances, human alebrijes, Chinas Oaxaca, and other traditional dances from the state of Oaxaca, including the Flor de la Piña dance. Monroy shared that being recognized for his work is an incredible honor, as it acknowledges the significance of the contributions made by the Latino community in Detroit. His dedication to promoting Mexican and Latino culture through his murals has not only beautified the city but has also brought attention to the rich cultural heritage of the community.
