Entrevista a Jonathan Barlow sobre la campaña electoral para la alcaldía de Detroit

Como alcalde, el empresario Jonathan Barlow aprovecharía su experiencia en la industria tecnológica y los emprendimientos, para darle a Detroit una visión de futuro.

El empresario Jonathan Barlow anunció su candidatura a la alcaldía de Detroit el 19 de marzo en la Detroit People’s Food Co-op.

Retrospectiva: Barlow es capitalista y director de alianzas estratégicas de X Big Tech. Tiene experiencia en organización comunitaria, DEI, desarrollo web y ciberseguridad.

  • Barlow también ha trabajado como consultor en la industria del cannabis.
  • Su grupo Ciudadanos por una Reforma Sensible del Cannabis recogió firmas para apoyar a la industria del cannabis medicinal de Detroit mediante propuestas electorales exitosas en 2017.

Enfoque:  Barlow quiere crear un fondo público-privado de 500 millones de dólares para el crecimiento empresarial. Otros puntos de política en el plan de 11 páginas de Barlow incluyen:

  • Utilizar IA, incluyendo evaluaciones de tráfico y trayectoria profesional.
  • Múltiples reformas de zonificación para acelerar el desarrollo e incentivar la vivienda asequible.
  • Atraer empresas de alta tecnología e incentivar a aquellas que reubiquen sus sedes aquí.
  • Apoyo a los trabajadores, como transporte público de bajo costo, cuidado infantil y servicios de salud mental.
  • Subvenciones para modernizar viviendas para que sean energéticamente eficientes.

Contexto: Un tema central de la campaña para la alcaldía son las grandes empresas y la comunidad: equilibrar los diversos intereses y necesidades de quienes afectan y se ven afectados por la evolución de Detroit.

  • Barlow afirma que a veces las personas convierten los nuevos desarrollos en un conflicto mayor de lo necesario.
