Fiesta Tigres, the Detroit Tigers’ annual celebration of the Hispanic heritage of many of their Latino players, sparked an avalanche of runs propelling them to a three-game sweep of the visiting Colorado Rockies last weekend. The Fiesta Tigres celebration was highlighted by pre-game display of Latin American flags representing current Latino players on the team, performances by the Ballet Folklorico de Detroit and Mariachi Herencia de Mexico and Tiger mascot Paws in a luchador mask.

In Saturday’s game, down 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth, things looked bleak, but the Tigers made one of their best comebacks in a season of “one-run losses”.  A home run by Kevin McGonigle gave him a shot at the rookie of the year, and stellar performances by Hao-Yu Lee, Riley Greene, and the rest of the team came to a thrilling end with the score Tigers 11 – Rockies 7. On Sunday, the Tigers won the third game of the series by a score of 8-1 sending Fiesta Tigres fans home muy feliz!
