Detroit artist and 2021 Kresge Fellow in the Visual Arts Peter Daniel Bernal is no true Scotsman, and some people say he’s no true Mexican either, because he doesn’t speak Spanish. The logical fallacy of other people denying his Mexican, Texan and mestizo heritage  have prompted Bernal to create a new series of paintings now on display at Hatch Art, an art gallery in Hamtramck.

At the opening reception last Saturday night, Bernal spoke to major art collectors, fellow artists and general art aficionados. Some of the paintings have violent imagery, all are executed brilliantly.

The exhibit will be on display until December 10. The address for Hatch Art is 3456 Evaline St, Hamtramck, MI 48212. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m.

For more information check out the article by Ofelia Saenz ‘No true Mexican’
