The Tigers came home for the weekend series vs. the Kansas City Royals on August 22, 2025, after sweeping the Houston Astros in a 3-game series.  Friday evening was Central Michigan University Night at Comerica Park.  CMU Alumni Zach McKinstry put on a show for thousands of the Chippewas in attendance.  McKinstry, named to the 2025 All-Star team started the evening with a solo home run in the third inning, a triple in the fifth inning, and a single in the 7th, Javy Baez followed him with a single and McKinstry got very aggressive and was sliding into third base when the throw from the Royals’ right fielder, Randal Grichuk, hit McKinstry’s helmet as he slid into third.  The ball popped off the helmet past KC third baseman Maikel Garcia and rolled toward the Tigers dugout.

Friday also saw Gleyber Torres score two runs with the help of Riley Greene’s HR.  Torres at 28 years old has now recorded more than 500 RBI and played in more than 1,000 major league games.  The former Yankee is now batting in the number 2 spot on the lineup and has an excellent eye with a 13.2 percent walk rate.

On Saturday, the crowds flocked to the COPA to get the giveaway Parker Meadows Jersey.  Javy Baez was a hit pre-game giving away “Javy Baez” lunch boxes at the “Kids Corner”.

The Tigers went on to win the game thanks to an 8th inning home run by Andy Ibanez.  Andy spent most of June and July with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens working on his hitting.  Returning to the lineup as a pinch hitter really paid off on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Tigers lost to the Royals 10 – 8.

Fiesta Tigres (a celebration of Latino Culture) – September 20, 2025

Javier Báez, Andy Ibáñez, Gleyber Torres, Wenceel Perez, & Rafael Montero are all on the Active Roster. Comerica Park will be celebrating Fiesta Tigres on September 20, 2025.  A special “Rope Hat” giveaway to certain fans is part of the celebration. The Tigers will host the Atlanta Braves at 1:10 pm.
