On Saturday, March 4th, the Victory Activity Center (VAC) at the First Latin American Baptist Church celebrated 41 local athletes who participated in its inaugural youth basketball league. Southwest Detroit children ages 7 to 11 played an eight-week tournament to learn the basics of the sport and develop important life skills such as teamwork and perseverance.

The young people were honored at the awards banquet. We join with the congregation and team families in congratulating the members of the Bison, Angels, Scorpions, and Hawks teams. The Hawks rose to the top with a 7-1 season, led by their key players Magnus Hunt and Aiyana Serrano. On March 25th the VAC will initiate its indoor soccer season for the same age group.

For more information about VAC programs and opportunities for sponsorship, call Ken Gutierrez at (248) 321-2433. The Victory Activity Center exists to connect SW Detroit youth and their families with God’s love and His gospel through quality sports and outreach activities. Its spacious facility is located at 2004 Scotten St., between W. Vernor Ave and Toledo St. in the heart of Southwest Detroit.
